Abstract:
This paper describes the collaborative partnership between the University of the District of Columbia and the local government's human services agency. The government entered into a partnership with the university to provide job skills training to District residents receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits. Through the collaboration, the government has been able to prepare individuals for employment and become self-sufficient. The University has engaged faculty in interdisciplinary collaboration and professional development. This partnership provides a snapshot of the value of the university in serving both the residents of the District of Columbia and local government policymakers.
